Addressing the Stigma Around Substance Use Disorder
Addiction Policy Forum partnered with the National Judicial Task Force to Examine State Courts’ Response to Mental Illness for a new JCOIN course on stigma!
Substance use disorders are one of the most highly stigmatized health conditions worldwide. Stigma creates barriers to healthcare and leads to lower engagement and retention in addiction treatment.
“Addressing the Stigma Around Substance Use Disorders” aims to help educate judges and court staff on the latest research on the intersection between addiction and criminal justice stigma.
This course is intended to improve knowledge about the experiences of stigma among individuals with a substance use disorder and justice-involved individuals. Participants will learn the different types of stigma, the social construct of stigma and different strategies to address stigma.
Certificates of participation are provided upon completion of the course.
