Sign on to the National Letter Urging Congress to Pass the HALT Fentanyl Act

Updated: Feb 28

The Addiction Policy Forum invites organizations and families to sign on to a national letter of support for the bipartisan Halt All Lethal Trafficking (HALT) of Fentanyl Act (S. 331) sponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA). This bipartisan bill would address the ongoing fentanyl crisis in the United States by permanently scheduling fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Acts.

The House of Representatives passed the HALT Fentanyl Act (H.R. 27) earlier this month with a bipartisan vote of 312-108. The bill now moves to the Senate for a vote. The legislation is endorsed by the Drug Enforcement Association of Federal Narcotics Agents, the Major County Sheriffs of America, the National Alliance of State Drug Enforcement Agencies, the National High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Directors Association, the National Narcotic Officers' Associations' Coalition, and the National District Attorneys Association.

“I’m pleased that my HALT Fentanyl Act is one step closer to becoming law,” shared Senator Heinrich in a statement. "I urge my Senate colleagues to swiftly bring the legislation to the floor for passage. It is urgently needed to help our law enforcement personnel crackdown on illegal trafficking, get deadly fentanyl out of our communities, and save lives.”

We invite all local, state, and national organizations to show their support for this critical bill by signing on to our national letter that reiterates the importance of the HALT Fentanyl Act (S. 311). The deadline to sign the letter is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 4th.

We also have a letter for families. If you wish to add your name and the name of your loved one(s), please complete this form.
