2024 Anti-Stigma Institute

Addiction Policy Forum’s inaugural Anti-Stigma Institute was held in Washington, DC in October 2024. The training brought together advocates, professionals, and community leaders committed to ending the stigma around addiction. Over two days, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, gained valuable tools, and received certifications to bring evidence-based stigma interventions back to their communities.

Dr. Valerie Earnshaw, from the University of Delaware, delivered a presentation on the pervasive nature of addiction-related biases and the importance of compassion in reshaping public perceptions.

Aimee Shadwick, Director of RecoveryOhio, provided an overview of RecoveryOhio’s coordinated efforts in addressing addiction statewide. Her presentation underscored the importance of statewide support systems in reducing addiction-related deaths and improving the lives of affected individuals and families across Ohio.

Looking ahead, APF remains dedicated to building partnerships, raising awareness, and supporting initiatives that enable those impacted by addiction to thrive in a stigma-free environment.
